The Bob Mims Book Boost: Growing Together, One Book at a Time

In October 2025, we launched the Bob Mims Book Boost, a community initiative created to support local teachers, inspire young readers, and help classrooms build a love of learning.

We believe every child deserves access to books that spark curiosity and open up new worlds. That’s why we invite our community to nominate a deserving teacher or classroom through Instagram, Facebook, email, or our website. Anyone can help us recognize an educator who makes a difference!

Each month, we select one classroom to receive a complimentary library refresh worth approximately $250 in books. No purchase necessary, no strings attached—just a little extra support for the teachers and students who make our community so special.

Once a classroom is selected, we connect with the teacher to gather their book wishlist and then personally deliver a box of books to help bring their classroom library to life. And sometimes, the visit comes with a little something extra! Depending on the students’ grade levels, our technicians may read a story aloud or host a Q&A session. We’ve had some truly memorable moments, including students asking thoughtful, creative questions about HVAC and how things work. Their curiosity never ceases to amaze us!

It’s been such a rewarding experience to connect with our local classrooms and see the excitement that a few new books can bring. We’ve been proud to call Staten Island home since 1950, and the Bob Mims Book Boost is one more way we can give back to the community that has supported us for generations.

Together, we’re helping inspire the next generation of readers, thinkers, and curious minds—one classroom and one book at a time.
